Air conditioning is possible in a green house. Read all about this in this edition of our "Focus on Green Homes" series.
Air conditioning in green homes is a source of much debate among fans of greenery. Certainly, the best way to save energy Air conditioning is not to have it or use it. But this is simply not practical for everyone.
Without no doubt, air conditioning of the past has been anything but green. He used very harmful chemicals and large amounts of energy consumed for what it produces. Even for the most effective units in use today still use a lot of energy causing huge bills electricity during the summer months. Can a system be designed for a green home that uses much less electricity and no harmful chemicals? Yes, indeed.
Size Matters - The first consideration when designing a system air conditioning for your home green is the system size. Air conditioning systems must be sized correctly for space cooling, given the number, location and type of trees, many windows, the layout of the house, and the size of living space. Precautions must be taken to adjust the system - it should not be too large or too small. Then we must consider all renewable resources, we can use to accomplish this task.
Cooling of the Earth - For the system to be truly green, renewable resources must be considered. One of the best renewable resources is called geo-thermal. Geo-thermal is literally heating or cooling depth of the earth. That is why most of the caves are at the same temperature (about 55F) all year. We can use this constant temperature of the earth to cool air for air conditioning.
To perform the geo-thermal cooling, water (or other liquid) is pushed through a pipe buried in the ground at an appropriate depth. The water is cooled to the temperature of the soil. Air is then passed over the tube and the hot air is transferred to water in the tube, remove hot air from the house. The heated water is then rejected if the tube under the ground and the heat is transferred into the soil efficiently cooling water back to 55 degrees and the process begins again.
Clean and efficient - use of geo-thermal air conditioning clean and quiet. For systems that do not use forced air to distribute fresh air, there is a lot less dust and noise.
This system uses much less energy to create fresh air for the house that the conventional air conditioning and it is much better for the environment. This system can also be used to heat the house. The cost of the system and the depth at which the tubes must be buried depends on the part of the world where you live.
