Lining Flue

Lining Flue

What is burning?

A flue is a passage of smoke and fumes to travel around to protect a fire. Most properties have an old brick chimney to carry the smoke and fumes away from the fire. Chimneys lined differently depending on whether a fire is wood / coal or gas.

Brief history of the ducts

Early Fire Within were allowed to Bulow smoke around the buildings inside. This has obvious disadvantages, which led to the creation flues first. The chimneys of the first built in stone, but it was quickly discovered that the brick chimneys could resist higher temperatures, and by the 18th century most chimneys were built of bricks. In more modern chimneys have evolved even further to meet the evolving needs of heating solutions.

Flue Types

Chimney - the chimney Traditional style is still common on most roofs.

Clearly defined by a fireplace and a pot, these fireplaces are still made of brick.

Prefabricated flue - concrete hollow blocks are used to create a vent pipe through the property. This is usually topped with a ridge vent on the roof.

Pre Fabricated flue - metal chimneys run from a metal box of smoke behind the fire through the roof.

Power flue - if there is no way to run a flue on the roof (you may have such an apartment above you), then a power of combustion is a solution. This is a expels fan quiet but powerful electric, gas through the wall.

Balanced combustion - in a manner similar to pipe power vents gas suction away from the fire through the wall. Unlike the combustion power, however, the sucker does not require network electric. Instead, it uses horizontal double-walled tubes.

Flue Safety

It is very important that the right type of combustion is used for fuel used. A wood stove should not be connected to a flue pipe that is used to maintain a gas appliance. This type of burning will have an aluminum coating, and when connected to a wood stove, it will soon corrode or burn out.

If you have a fireplace or stove, do not forget to get the chimney swept on a regular basis. This prevents the accumulation creosote in the liner. A chimney cool (think of the depths of winter) could allow creosote in the third degree (sometimes called glaze creosote) to form. This is much denser and harder to remove the creosote regularly. Creosote is a flammable wood burned. If creosote is allowed to build, and the chimney gets hot, he can get down and get out of control. Sweeping your chimney on a regular basis will prevent that. An alternative to scanning is to have the chimney lined. Today, the walls of the steel chimney have been developed for use with lamps of different fuel types. Another option is to pyrolysis your fireplace. This process deliberately leave your hot fire and burn off the creosote before it can build up too much.
