The importance of keeping the air filter Clean HVAC
Before we discuss the different types of air conditioning and heating filters and which is best for you, it should be stressed how important it is to keep your air conditioning and heating filters clean. Airflow is very important to the efficiency of your heating, ventilation and air conditioning (CVC) and filters to play a key role in maintaining the proper air circulation. Whether your AC system or your heating system, both HVAC systems need the exact amount of airflow designed the whole system. Dirty filters restrict airflow which results through more energy and repair costs for you.
Filter categories
There is a definition different categories, and ratings for HVAC filtering media. High Performance HVAC will do its best to keep the confusion of this and help you better understand these different categories and ratings so you may choose for yourself. First of all, HVAC filters are rated by a MERV value. MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value and is a method developed by ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) to test the effectiveness of air filters of HVAC. The higher MERV number the higher the efficiency of furnace filters to block HVAC particles and certain compounds. There are three separate categories for air filters of HVAC. They are:
Mechanical Air Filters -- This is the kind off-the-shelf cast HVAC filter. This filter collects particles in its filter medium. After it collects so much you simply remove particles, discard it and replace it with another. Note that some media mechanical filter is washable. HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air filters) are also in this category. There are three sub-categories for mechanical air filters. They are:
A1 and A2 - the filters are standard 1 inch thick. They are generally rated MERV 1 to MERV 4.
B Media filter is 2 to 4 inches thick. These filters typically range from MERV 1 to MERV 12.
C Media HEPA filters are the filters. MERV ratings for these filters exceed MERV 13 and are more expensive.
Electronics purification Air - The electronic air cleaner does not qualify for a MERV rating because its efficiency can change depending on the degree of its pollution is. It is important that electronic air cleaners are cleaned on a biannual basis (more often in dusty environments) for best performance. In addition, these work best when used in conjunction with a mechanical filtering media.
Gas Phase Absorption - Uses carbon to absorb odors and gases from the air stream. This media is not very effective in removing particles and is used mainly in the laboratory and in industry.
It is important to understand that the more mechanical filter is filtering the air the faster it will load (or being clogged by particles). This can affect the performance of your equipment and frequency changes. Unless your dwelling is particle and Dust does not think the filter will last for three months, despite allegations that manufacturers of filters. In addition, it is imperative that the filter has good fit with no leakage of air around the frame that holds the filter.
Now that you understand filters, how they function to remove particles air, and the different types and ratings for filters, you need to take steps to implement a planned change filter routine. It is recommended that filters be checked at least every 30 days for excessive load of particles. If the filter is excessively loaded on the "balance of thirty days, a time you must reduce the time of 3 weeks or relax that schedule if they are not loaded up. Some modern digital thermostats are equipped a callback filter function which flashes the number of days or time of performance of the fan. These thermostats do not forget to change or check your filter at regular intervals.
In closing, remember that filters are very necessary not only to maintain the particles air inside the housing, but also to protect the equipment. If you do not have a filter in the system somewhere or there is a filter that is excessively clogged the HVAC equipment will fail and you lose your air conditioning comfort until corrective measures be taken. Set a schedule and stick so that you keep your air pure and equipment protected.
